Modalities of Change

by dan rodriguez

Very smart, critical article by Paul Lippe in ABA Journal on law school change.  Changes are coming, let’s be crystal clear about that.  No law schools will be immune from this; and the elite law schools, NU Law included, will undergo changes as well.

Mr. Lippe draws a distinction between “innovators” (basically, change by folks who like to shake things up) and “early adopters.”  What goes missing in this dichotomy is the collective efforts of leading law schools.  Much is made in the ongoing dialogue of the impediments to change created by standard collective action dilemmas.  Less is made of the capacity of law schools to change in signficant ways through the collective energies of law school stakeholders staring down the tunnel of challenging times.
